• Persendian terasa kaku dan nyeri apabila di gerakkan. Pada mulanya terjadi pada pagi hari. Pada beberapa penderita, nyeri sendi dapat timbul setelah istirahat lama seperti duduk di kursi atau di jok mobil dalam perjalanan jauh. Terkadang juga di rasakan setelah bangun tidur di pagi hari.
• Adanya pembengkakan atau peradangan pada persendian.
• Persendian yang sakit berwarna kemerah merahan.
• Kelelahan yang di sertai rasa sakit pada persendian.
• Kesulitan menggunakan persendian.
• Bunyi pada setiap persendian. Gejala ini tidak menimbulkan rasa sakit, hanya rasa tidak nyaman pada setiap persendian.
• Perubahan bentuk tulang. Ini akibat jaringan tulang rawan yang semakin rusak, tulang mulai berubah bentuk dan meradang, menimbulkan rasa sakit yang amat sangat.

Mungkin pada beberapa penderita akan berbeda gejalanya tetapi pada umumnya 7 hal diatas adalah gejala pokok dari Osteoarthritis. Semoga bermanfaat. (Disarikan dari berbagai sumber).

Osteoarthritis adalah peradangan sendi yang bersifat kronis dan progresif. Peradangan tersebut di sertai kerusakan tulang rawan sendi berupa disintegrasi ( pecah ) dan perlunakan progresif permukaan sendi, menyebabkan pertumbuhan tulang rawan sendi (osteofit ) di tepi tulang.

Dari pandangan lain Osteoarthritis adalah penyakit degeneratif ( aging prosess ) yang biasanya terjadi pada kelompok usia diatas 50 tahun. Namun tidak jarang pula menyerang kelompok usia remaja.

Sendi yang rawan Osteoarthritis adalah sendi yang di gunakan sebagai penopang berat badan, seperti : sendi lutut, tulang belakang, sendi panggul, sendi tangan dan kaki. Jika tidak diobati rasa sakit akan bertambah sampai tidak bisa berjalan. Di tingkat kronis tulang mengalami perubahan bentuk. Jika di biarkan Osteoarthritis dapat menyebabkan cacat permanent pada tulang, bentuk tulang akan menjadi bengkok ke dalam atau ke luar. Untuk itu Osteoarthritis perlu di waspadai karena mempunyai dampak jangka panjang yang umumnya baru dirasakan sekitar 10 tahun kemudian.
